Just minutes ago I finished watching the movie known as "an Inconvenient Truth" a documentary which is directed by and features Al Gore. In this piece Mr. Gore explains how the world is getting warmer by mankind through the burning of fossil fuels. It is very informative and actually quite interesting, yet easy to follow. Anybody that is not very knowledgeable on the topic of global warming should take an hour and twenty minutes and watch the film. Most of the information that is discussed during the documentary is seen on charts and graphs and easily understandable. Although to me, this documentary has pulled me in two different directions.
First, I do believe Al Gore is very passionate about this topic and wants to do something to keep the situation from getting worse. Also there are pictures from glaciers taken twenty years ago and also current pictures of the same glaciers; the difference is amazing. Clearly he did a lot of research on the topic and has formed his own hypothesis on this evolution. He did recently win the Pulitzer prize for his work on the contributions of his global warming research. The future will definately see him at the forefront of the topic until more legislation is passed.
This picture was good but it had some negativity in it as well. Myself and my wife noticed that he was constantly taking cheap shots on the current presidential administration. It made me think some of this may be his own personal propaganda to keep his name in the headlines since he had lost the election to our current president in a very controversial election.
I did enjoy the film, I learned a lot of knowledge from it but unfortunately it seemed to be tainted by the way the knowledge was presented.

I think your George Bush cartoon is right on the money. It is a fitting caricature depicting his attitude towards global warming in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence. But that is truly typical George Bush. After the hurricane Katrina disaster Bush quickly claimed that no one could have predicted that the levees would break. The very next night CNN showed a videotape of Bush being briefed by one of his staffers that the levees would most definitely break. He has the exact same attitude towards global warming. I was also surprised at the number of prominent people (including scientists and politicians) who claim that the whole global warming issue is a hoax. If you only read a couple of articles and gain a reasonable understanding of the global warming issue it can be a little frightening.
I have not seen the movie with Al Gore. I have heard about how good it is from other people. I am glad that you saw the movie. But you should talk more about how great the movie and what kind of impact it has had on other people and the legislation. In your next blog, write more about this movie because this movie I think has more involvement in Global Warming than people think. Your piece is great, but how did you come by the movie? Write more about the movie. Try to get people to watch the movie. Seriously, where did you get the movie? To answer your question about the Pistons, they were great last year. They have the same team from last year. They are 3-0 right now, which is great for them. They are playing the Bulls tomorrow night, Thursday. The Bulls are a young team and the Pistons are better than them. So it might be difficult in the beginning, but I see the Pistons overcoming the Bulls. The Pistons should make the playoffs. They probably will win the East Championship. However, I am a Nets fan frist and I think my Nets have a chance this year. So write more about the Al Gore movie.
I agree with your comments that Gore made too many shady references to the current administration in this movie and it undermined it's credibility. By doing so he made it easy for the Bush people to dismiss the film publicly as Gore's lame charecter assasination attempt for losing the 2000 election rather then the important piece of work it really is. How much of that was actually Gore's idea is a question I would like answered.
I agree that global warming is probably taking place. I also agree with some scientists that it may be inevitable no matter what we do. Some of the dissenters I have read disagree with whether it is possible to halt it as Gore claims is possible, not whether it is taking place.
There was evidence that Earth hasn't always maintained the same axis it does now, and the polar caps melting and reforming again would account for that. Everything recycles, maybe the planet does too whether we like it or not. Humans tend to think we can fix everything, but Mother Nature has defied our attempts again and again. I think the smart money is on her to do it again.
I have wanted to see that movie. I heard it really makes you feel the magnitude of the global situation we are in. As an avid environmentalist I really like you piece. I think there is so much more everyone in the world can do to help slow the effects of global warming. My family and I recycle everything; it really is not that much work you just take an extra step to through it in a recycling bin instead of the trash can. I do not understand why most people can not grasp this concept. The amount of good recycling does can deeply impact our environment. I wish people would take the extra few minutes to care.
Good post here! There is so much history between the Bushes and the Clinton-Gores that of course some of that had to come out. It's hard for somebody like Gore to not speak his mind. I also believe he "spun" the issue with Bush and global warming, but William P. was right: Bush has such a horrendous history on ignoring the environment, allowing nonscientists to edit EPA data, etc. that is there any way to justify the current presidental administration's environmental inaction? Bush's actions on this issue seem both criminal and foolhardy: it's a wonder Gore didn't sound more like Michael Moore!
Great post!--You got us thinking and debating.
I'm interested in seeing the movie. At the risk of contradicting myself, I'm somewhat familiar with the issues, but not. I was once a part of a very unique think tank out of New York and it was comprised of some very educated people. It was here that I learned that everything we see today in terms of issues like this, the government has known about it for at least 10 years prior. So when we start to see things in main stream media and movies and such are starting to be made about certain topics, then best believe not only is there some truth to it, but it's not new. There are no surprises. This being said, I look at movies like The Day After Tomorrow and marry them to this issue and become very concerned at how very much at risk we are.
Signs are everywhere. But what can we as individuals do to prepare if our government won't.
