Each time a light switch is turned on, it is unfortunately contributing to global warming; because somewhere a power plant is burning fossil fuels to create the energy needed for that light. We can help reduce these effects by turning off lights when they are no longer needed and at all possible times use day light. Another simple way to stop the unneeded burning of fossil fuels is to check the tire pressure of your vehicle periodically. A properly inflated vehicle tire will reduce your gas mileage because the vehicle will run smoother. Not to mention with the price of gas these days, we need every advantage that we can get.
Another great way to contribute positively is to clean or replace the filters on your furnace and air conditioner periodically. A dirty filter causes the appliance to work harder and uses more energy. This will lower the cost of your electric bill. To go a step further you could wrap your hot water heater with an insulated blanket. It takes a lot of energy to keep your household water hot and this will keep some of the heat from escaping.

Bryon,
Definitely some good tips here. As soon as I read the tip about the lights, I remembered here some stuff on the radio about people who already have their christmas lights on. I also think about how the number of people on the road before daylight has significantly increased across the US. Do you think these people are getting ready in the dark to help with Global Warming?
Bryon,
After reading your blog, I find out that those tips are very helpful. Now I have a better understanding of global warming. It does not take too much work. I believe global warming is real. If everyone is doing their parts, we can help to reduce its impact.
hey!! thankss for your feedback and congratulations on your new baby! Good job on this post! Out of all the posts about global warming, I really think this is by far the most important post because this is telling us humans what to prevent from doing in order to protect our planet. These are the most important and probably the main things we all should be doing. Ever since writing about global warming, I also have seen changes in my actions. Before doing something, I realize if this is good for the environment or not...this is always stuck in my mind now and I love it! I'm glad your that way too now...hopefully, maybe, we can help change the environment just by our blogs (who knows..maybe we already are changing people's actions!) Doesn't it feel awesome?!
I totally agree with you...these ideas are small, easy to do, and we should *all* be attempting them. I wonder, could you provide some links to other sites that discuss this issue so that we can connect to the broader conversation. I know you'll want to make it easy on your readers here, so give them the connection to those great energy-saving tips.
My favorites: buy a hybrid and try to commute less; use reusable canvas bags at the grocery store versus the plastic bags (this one is so easy!); and buy local foods as much as possible...
